Dianne taught me how to tell time by the parking meeters in the streeet and by the public telephones, simply by lifting up the receiver--if they're working that is. She taught me to use the metro and the bus system; how to go to Sitges and to La Metilla and to Canet and to Girona. She taught me about sending mail and picking it up. She showed me where to pick up comics and the best place for design periodicals. She helped me apply for my first library card and encouraged me to check something out, to go to all the different libraries in the city. So I followed her to the charming, ancient library in Raval. I had known about it before, had walked by it before, but had never dared go in, until the time I knew she would be there, waiting for someone else.
