he is powerful, indeed, that halfling, if he can walk the earth with the ring of power, uninfluenced by its power. "come, she is waiting."
i was watching "Hamlet" with keneth branagh as hamlet. and there was laertes and i thought of larry from high school who they used to call laertes, chant his name during basketball games when he scored, "laertes, laertes, laertes." i had no idea who laertes was, even though someone told me that it came from a shakespeare play. he was kind of geeky and lanky, dark black thick-rimmed glasses, sports suspender during games. i kind of got the impression that he didn't like to hear the crowd chear "laertes" when he played, but i'm not certain. i wouldn't like it, that's for certain.

hamlet in catalan sounds cool.

KLA (kosov liberation army) molosovtz used them as an excuse for ethnic cleansing in kosov, when in fact there was no KLA according to all the witness who testified at his trial. in the same way, the US used the threat of "terrorism" against the US to cut civil liberties, introduce martial law, wage war around the world and against disident groups in the US. slowly the people of the US accepted the evolution of the government. AP wire story on the ACLU's reaction, but with even better quotes from justice spokeswoman and Ridge:

Attorney General John Ashcroft's spokeswoman denied Tuesday that the Justice Department program, still in the development stage, would set up people to spy upon one another in their homes and communities.

Barbara Comstock said the agency had no intention for people -- such as utility workers -- to enter or have access to the homes of individuals. The idea is to organize information from people whose jobs take them through neighborhoods, along the coasts and highways and on public transit, she said.

Said Homeland Security chief Tom Ridge: "The last thing we want is Americans spying on Americans. That's just not what the president is all about, and not what the TIPS program is all about."

Right, uh-huh. Unless they work for the FBI, the CIA, the NSA, the DEA, Homeland Security, local and state police departments, and any of the many flavors of military intelligence as we roll back the Posse Comitatus Act.

"The ACLU said the concept was worrisome, nonetheless.

"The administration apparently wants to implement a program that will turn local cable or gas or electrical technicians into government-sanctioned Peeping Toms," said Rachel King, an ACLU legislative counsel.

The ACLU said it was concerned that these volunteers would, in effect, be searching people's homes without warrants, that resources would be wasted on a flood of useless tips and that the program would encourage vigilantism and racial profiling.

It would provide a central reporting point for reports of unusual but non-emergency situations. Among those involved in the voluntary program could be truckers, mail carriers, train conductors, ship captains, utility employees and others.

Ridge told radio reporters that people in certain occupations are ideal observers. "They might pick up a break in the certain rhythm or pattern of a community. They may pick up in the course of their daily business something that's very unusual."

He noted that the program is voluntary.

"There's a big difference being vigilant and being a vigilante. We just want people to use their common sense," Ridge said. "It is not a government intrusion. The president just wants people to be alert and aware. ... We're not asking for people to spy on people."

The goal, Comstock said, "is to allow American workers to share information they receive in the regular course of their jobs in public places and areas."

Operation TIPS is a part of the Citizen Corps, an initiative announced by President Bush in his State of the Union address.

The Postal Service issued a statement saying it has had preliminary discussions with the Department of Justice and Bush's homeland security office, but no final agreements have been reached.

"It is important to note, however, that the Postal Service has established processes for our postal employees nationwide to report suspicious activity to the Postal Inspection Service and to local authorities," the agency said.

Justice plans to begin the project in August in 10 cities, to be selected. Participants will be able to report anything unusual to a toll-free phone number."

dear boo,

i walked past your piso today, sat and had a shwarma in plaça george orwell, hoping to see you walk by, but to no avail. i don't even know if you still live there. i suspect that you do not, but it makes me feel good to go there anyway because your spirit still walks in that place and i can feel it. and sometimes i need that presence. you used to tell me that when i made you laugh, you knew i would say the same things even if you were not there, that i would say things not to perform, but that's just who i was. i never said, no, i only say those things to make you laugh. i even thought, she's right, i would say that even if i were alone. well, i was wrong. i never say things to make anyone laugh any more, especially myself. there is no joy in my life, and that is a sad state of existance. i hope to find happiness again, i'm just not sure if the old sources still hold true for me.

anyway, i need to get some sleep. it's almost half-past midnight. i hope you find yourself well and in good spirits.

love,

boo
from to the best of our knowledge from npr: ventriloquism and listening to the voices inside of us, giving a voice to those voices. this reminded me of the revelation i had last night while at a show at the cso el manantial. i was thoroughly absorbed by the music, in a trance almost, not listening to the lyrics, just thinking, as one does in church. a woman asked me if i had any papers, so i gave her one (always carry papers and a lighter, very handy). she smiled at me and i thought, i should say hi. i should take the porro if she offers it to me, even though i don't smoke tobacco. i'll just pretend to smoke. whatever. but i needed to be confident, mellow, calm, non-chalant. i thought about brian, the epitome of this state. i'm not sure what i did, but suddenly brian was there with me, inside me, i was under the influence of his power, not in an uncontroled way, but having access to his power at my command. it was enthralling. i thought that this is a power that you can invoke with any person, any spirit you know and want to wield their power. certainly, this is something that has existed for eons, but priest knew that this type of magic was too powerful for the masses, that they would have no place in a society full of strong, well-adjusted people, so they made these out to be ghosts, demons, evil that had to be thwarted. they hid the knowledge of invoking the spirits of the living and dead, to gain their power. they hid this knowledge from the masses, but used it themselves. if this is the case, then i'm certain that there are mountains of other magic they hid from us. we need to find out what else they hid from us. i forgot about the woman next to me, went outside to the terraza and sat down to write all this down on a copy of l'independent de gracia.
